We practice love. Love is a skill we practice and get better at. Practicing unconditional love removes all the drama from life. We must learn how to practice unconditional love towards our life, our spouse, our children, our work…we practice unconditional love towards everything and everyone!
Usually, we live from a place of comparing, a place of judgment, a place of expectations, with our own agenda. We must become aware, pay attention to our words and actions. Instead of thinking someone is “wrong” because they are different than you, instead of judging other people for their differences or the way they do things, recognize, and acknowledge that God made them this way and appreciate them, celebrate them, accept them as they are, it will improve your relationship.
If you are in a long-term relationship and the person you are with wishes you were different and they keep telling you all the ways they wish you were different, does it feel loving? Does it motivate you to want to change?
If you are in a long-term relationship and the person loves you exactly as you are, they love you like you are the person they long for you to become, like you are everything they wish you could be, it does something to you. It motivates you to want to be the person they believe you are not out of guilt or points keeping or to prove your worthy but because they have no expectations and just love you.
We must learn to have and practice Christ’s love-ability, which is the ability to love no matter what. Not, “do they deserve my love,” or “how are they acting today.” We have the power of the Holy Spirit inside us helping us to love! Love-ability is my ability to love the people in my life regardless of what they do, regardless of their behavior, regardless of how they treat me.
God enables, equips, and empowers us to love others well. God increases our capacity to love others as we implant His Word in our lives and are rooted, grounded, centered in Him, as we live in and from His Love for us.
We work on our ability to love with Christ as our strength because Christ has an endless ability to love!
